About

Douglas Beck (M.M., M.Div., Cert. Spiritual Direction) creates music, stunning paintings, and opportunities for connection, direction and growth in the beautiful State of Maine.

With a rich musical journey that has taken him across the US, Canada, and Europe, Douglas Beck is a seasoned MUSICian. His music, a harmonious blend of classical training from the Peabody Conservatory of Music of The Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore), the freedom of plainsong, and other spiritual music such as traditional hymnody and Celtic inspirations, is a testament to his versatile talent. Whether as a harpist, organist, pianist, singer, conductor or composer. Douglas will personally put together a program or provide music for an event to meet your needs. Douglas is a member of the Association of Anglican Musicians and the International Folk Harp Society. Many of his harp arrangements are available for purchase here: Douglas Beck PDFs: Sylvia Woods Harp Center

His harp videos may be seen here: Douglas Beck - YouTube

Douglas Beck's visual ART is a reflection of his lifelong passion. His expressive, abstract landscape paintings, inspired by the beautiful, everyday surroundings of Northern New England and the Maine coast, invite the viewer to engage with the image as a participant. His style, characterized by movement and compelling color, is brought to life through the use of oil, acrylic, and watercolor. His work, found in growing private collections, has been compared to that of Hartley, O'Keefe, Alsop, Francis, and Blaine. Douglas is a member of the New England Watercolor Society and the Bangor Art Society. See his portfolio here: Portfolio | Music Art Spirit

As a certified SPIRITual Director and ordained priest in the Episcopal/Anglican tradition, Douglas offers spiritual friendship and accompaniment grounded in the traditions of Ignatius, Julian of Norwich, and the Celtic Anam Cara. Douglas's approach to Spiritual Direction supports the client's awareness and response to the intersection of the Divine in their lives. Potential areas of exploration, aligned with the client's intentions, may include religious or spiritual wounding, discernment of life, such as vocation, avocation, career, and relationships, as well as LGBTQ+ and creative potential. Douglas's certification in Spiritual Direction through the Haden Institute, his Master of Divinity degree with honors from the Atlantic School of Theology (Halifax), and his ongoing work in Spiritual Direction are a testament to his commitment to this path. He is currently the rector of St. Francis by the Sea Episcopal Church in Blue Hill, Maine. Douglas is a member of Spiritual Directors International.
